Director of Music Ministry
ORGANIST/PIANIST/ACCOMPANIST
- Written application and resumé, video (with sound) performing a short piece on either organ or piano, and interview.
- Professional competence on both organ and piano.
- Professional competence demonstrated at:
- An audition consisting of one prepared organ piece; one prepared piano piece; one prepared church hymn; one prepared choir accompaniment piece; sight-reading a church hymn and one accompaniment piece.
- One choir rehearsal.
- One worship service (paid at regular rate).
- Education and/or experience in liturgical music for church services.
- Ability as an accompanist for choirs, instrumental groups, and soloists, using classical, modern or ethnic liturgical music.
- Ability and readiness to follow the direction of the Pastor.
- Possess a theological orientation compatible with that of the United Methodist Church.
DUTIES:
- Provide musical accompaniment for all worship services.
- Rehearse weekly with the Chancel Choir for Sunday worship services.
- Receive supervision from the Pastor.
- Coordinate with Music Director, Pastor, and Worship Committee to provide own music for preludes, offertories, and postludes.Music selections will be coordinated with the theme of the worship service.
- Attend monthly meetings with the Pastor, paid staff, and a Staff-Parish Relations Committee representative. Attend monthly meetings with Pastor and Worship Committee to plan the next three months of church service.
- Play for other special services or events including but not limited to, Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday.
- Play for funerals, weddings, and other irregularly scheduled events, as requested, if available. Additional remuneration will be paid.
- Supervise the care and use of organ and piano, and recommend needed repairs to the Worship Committee and/or Music Director.
- Attend, if possible, regional workshops for church organists, at church expense.
- Spend at least one hour of orientation for use of the Johannus organ, at church expense.
- Find organist/pianist/accompanist substitutes when needed, in consultation with the Music Director.
- The regular workweek is ten hours, paid at a rate of $30.00 per hour.Work hours will be submitted using the St. Paul’s UMC time sheet.
SICK LEAVE:
- Paul’s UMC provides sick leave for personal illness, injury, personal disability, and medical appointments.
- Employees receive 40 hours per year, starting at date of hire.Sick leave expires at the end of each twelve-month period.
Sick leave cannot be used prior to the time it is credited at the start of each twelve-month period.
- Call-in leave notification is to be made as soon as possible, but in no event later than thirty minutes before than the beginning of their workday.
- Sick leave may be used on an hour-by-hour basis.
- Sick leave may be used when the employee is required to provide care for children, parent, spouse or registered domestic partner, grandparent, grandchild, sibling or a designated person which will be limited to one per year.
VACATION LEAVE:
- Paul’s UMC does not provide paid vacation leave for employees working less than twenty hours per week.Paid vacation leave is not provided for the organist/pianist/accompanist position.
- Paul’s UMC provides the organist/pianist/accompanist two weeks of unpaid vacation leave, if desired.It is preferred that the organist/pianist/accompanist schedule their unpaid vacation leave during the period when the Chancel Choir is on vacation (usually July/August).
